When to apply
  • Applications to the college for specialist pathway assessment are accepted through the year, with document review taking several months before an interview is offered.
When interviews run
  • Any month; the college schedules the interview once the documentation has been assessed, usually within a few months of a complete application.
The format
  • A structured interview with a college panel of two or three fellows, exploring training, scope of practice, clinical judgement and Australian governance, often with specialist level scenarios; around an hour.
Who is on the panel
  • Two or three fellows of the college in the specialty, with a chair, sometimes with a college staff member observing.
How it is scored
  • The panel determines comparability to an Australian fellow: substantially, partially or not comparable, which sets the period of supervised practice, the assessments and any further training required before fellowship.
What to prepare
  • Your training mapped stage by stage to the Australian curriculum, with the examinations and assessments aligned.
  • Your scope of practice over five years with numbers and settings, and the gaps named honestly with how supervised practice would close them.
  • Specialist level clinical scenarios in your field, including a complication you managed and open disclosure in the Australian framework.
  • Australian governance in plain words: credentialing and scope, the National Standards, incident reporting, cultural safety, and your registration conditions.
