When to apply
  • UCAT is sat in July; applications through the state tertiary admissions centres close in late September.
  • Some universities require a direct application as well.
When interviews run
  • Interviews run from late November to January, with offers from January.
The format
  • A multiple mini interview of six to ten stations of about eight minutes, or a structured panel at some universities; rural programmes add a rural commitment interview.
Who is on the panel
  • One interviewer per MMI station, trained and scoring against a rubric; two or three for a panel.
How it is scored
  • Each station scored against a rubric; the interview is weighted with the UCAT and the ATAR, or used as a hurdle, depending on the university.
What to prepare
  • One real example for each of teamwork, leadership, a mistake, criticism, stress and bad news.
  • Ethical reasoning practised daily with the structure: principles, people, options, choice, the other side.
  • Role plays with someone who stays in character.
  • Full timed circuits with a bell in the last week.
